Pondly Yours

so i've wanted a pond for a very long time and here is my first attempt. a 300 gallon horse water trough with a filter/pump and some plants. its been running for a few days and i added some big gold fish yesterday and today went down to the local retention pond in our neighborhood and scooped up some minnows. i found a place that has small turtles, which i hear will eat everything in site, so that will probably be the next addition. some day i hope to have an in ground koi pond but this is a start. and its easy. you could do it on a much smaller scale on a deck and just grow plants. there are all types of "marginals" that have to be submerged just below the water line that have amazing blooms.

Range Life

yesterday i spent the morning at my gun range and entered in a rifle/pistol silhouette match. this is knocking down metal targets off a rail from 40, 50, 75, and 100 yards. very challenging especially with a scope that is broken and guessing that i had to be left and low in order to hit something. but nothing beats the "ping" and watching the target fall off the back of the rail. most people were using target pistols (all .22 caliber so its not that loud) and i had to use my rifle because i don't have a target pistol. but i will soon! it was a lot of fun and since it takes two people, one shooter and one scorer, i'm hoping mindy will join up with me for the next one.

saturday we spent the entire day working in the yard and buying plants to replace what we lost during the winter. i also finally got a 6' round galvanized steel water tank to use as a water garden and hopefully koi pond. hoping to be able and get it up and running soon.

friday night we went down the street to our new friends the konetski's for a grill out, fire pit, pool and ping pong tourney. great fun until i ran home and got some dvd's to play. they have a ton of tv's all throughout their house and are always playing some music/concert dvd as background. we have a little different taste in music so i tried to broaden their horizons with an old school led zepplin concert, burn to shine chicago (alt. rock), and something else i can't remember. not big zepplin fans, burn to shine was a little to punk rock, and the third failed as well. good thing i left my "hated: g.g. allen" dvd at home.

work has been crazy busy the last two months as people try to cash in on the first time homeowner tax credit. that ends at the end of this month, so i am expecting a slight slow down, but its sure to pick up again this summer. so far a great year work wise! great i just jinxed it.
