Yes I am back from a nearly 5 months without posts. My problem is work. Which I know is a lame excuse. But for roughly 8 months a year I work as hard as a coal miner 6 or 7 days a week and then this time of year comes around and I'm a part timer with a lot of chores around the house. ALL WORK AND NO PLAY- SCOFF! you might say. well yes i have had some time to myself and done a few interesting things. here is a run down of what the hell i've been up to...
in june, dave the muth came down to austin to do some work at jim eno's public hi-fi studio. i helped him with a couple of projects including this shelving unit. dave where are you????
in july, our girl gussie got to have ACL replacement surgery. that makes three total for our clan (pickle has had both legs done). she just turned 10 and is good as ever.
At the end of July it was MERGE XX. This marks the third time in a row (going back 15 years!) that I have made the pilgrimage to Chapel Hill for a week of hot rock and roll. stand outs of course superchunk, spoon, mat suggs, frisbee golf, private parking lot party, "new" firends, ordering a drink from Richard Stillwell at the OCSC, Fraz-isms, great times...
In August, Mindy, my parents and I flew to Sutton's Bay, MI for my brothers 15th wedding anniversary party. It was great to escape the 100+F weather in Austin at that point. Always a good time with Colby and Kris. Here's to another 15!
September starts with the opening of dove season. This is from a day trip with my friend alex to taylor, tx. got'em breasted and they are waiting in the freezer for just the right appetizer.
i am a member of the austin rifle club where i took a day class to learn about IDPA (international defense pistol association). its a competition of real life situational uses of handguns. to hide behind this barrier, run up to that barrel, kill the bad guys save the hostages. it was a lot of fun and i hope to enter some actual matches and get more involved at the gun club. good for networking and stress relieving.
October is Austin City Limits music festival time. with a brand new $2 million dollar lawn at zilker park that first day was great. and then the rain started and it ended up being a miserable mud fest. the music was great and overall i had a great time. look close at the picture and you'll see perry ferrell of jane's addiction singing "the moutain song" on stage with pearl jam. what?!?!
this was mindy's halloween costume this year. complete with micro-cassette recorder of the song. she took first place at work.
just last week i went deer hunting for the first time with alex outside of bullard, tx. shot this nice 9 point buck from 60 yards away. it was such a rush. we spent three days being still and quite and waiting. i mean dead quite, no movement. that's what most of hunting is all about. very peaceful and reflective to be alone and just listening to the trees and birds. those who know me would ask how could i sit still for three days, well i getting older and actually enjoy it. sure i still pace around the house at night looking for something to do as mindy works a logic puzzle or does some knitting. it was great to dial it down for a while. i look forward to another trip coming up with my dad outside of kerrville, tx to hunt axis deer.
well that's a quick run down of what's been happening. i vow to get back to the regular posting as i follow dogwood giRRRRL everyday and she spurs me to get back with it.
hope you're well...
